The Jazz Band earned a Silver Award and the Spirit Award for their exemplary representation of the Servite Community.
Lead by Jazz Band Director Michael Burrows, the Servite Jazz Band received a Silver Award for overall performance and the Spirit Award at its appearance in the Seattle Heritage Music Festival in Washington on April 2, 2011.
The band played “Shiny Stockings” by Frank Foster, “Just When I’m Thinking About You” by Rob Vuono, and “Mack the Knife” by Kurt Weil. After the performance, concert judges gave a workshop, providing feedback and suggestions on technique. After listening to performances by other bands from schools from around the US, the band attended an awards ceremony on Blake Island. Mr. Burrows, band members, and parents alike were pleased and surprised at the band’s reception of the Spirit Award, recognizing the group’s professionalism and support of the other schools.

In addition to competing at the festival, the band enjoyed performing at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Seattle, and visiting the Museum of Flight, the Seattle Science Center, and Microsoft.
The band members are grateful to Mr. and Mrs. Burrows, and chaperones Father Perry, Dr. Carr and Mrs. Moulton. They would also like to thank all their parents for making it possible for them to attend.
